2022 SoCon Football Media Day Set for Thursday, July 28

Daniel Hooker

Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations

Excitement for the start of the 2022 college football season ramps up this week as the Southern Conference converges on the Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville for the 2022 SoCon Football Media Day. All nine of the league’s head coaches will be on hand on Thursday, July 28 to meet with members of the media and preview the upcoming fall season.

Thursday’s media day festivities include conference meetings in the morning with the event

officially kicking off with a media day luncheon at Noon where Pro Football Hall of Famer – and former Chattanooga Mocs standout – Terrell Owens is slated to be the keynote speaker. Owens, who played in the SoCon at UTC from 1992-95 and went on to become one of the most prolific wide receivers in NFL history, will participate in a question-and-answer session with Pete Yanity, WSPA sports director, and emcee of the luncheon, about his playing career. Owens was inducted into the SoCon Hall of Fame in 2020.

The SoCon’s preseason all-conference team from the league’s head coaches and both official preseason polls are to be unveiled as a part of Thursday’s event, followed by on-site interviews with members of the media.

Throughout the afternoon media availability, interview segments with each of the league’s nine head coaches will also be recorded. The 2022 SoCon Football Media Day Preview will be broadcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) and through the WatchESPN app on Friday, July 29 beginning at 10:00 a.m.
