Bats leads No. 25/22 Young Harris past USCB 23-15

Young Harris College set season highs in runs, hits and RBI as the No. 25/22 Mountain Lions finished the sweep of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort in their Peach Belt Conference baseball series with a 23-15 victory Sunday (April 16) afternoon at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The Mountain Lions won their eighth consecutive game as they improved to 33-11 overall and to 21-6 in the league. The Sand Sharks fell to 12-26 and 5-19. Young Harris returns to Zell B. Miller Field Wednesday (April 19) for a 3 p.m. non-conference game against Lincoln Memorial University.

Young Harris scored in every inning but the third and seventh innings. YHC had two big innings. They scored eight in the second as they jumped out to an 11-3. The Mountain Lions posted six runs in the ninth after USCB had closed to within 17-13.
Every starter for YHC except for one had at least one hit. Seven had multiple hits including six players - Ethan Underwood, Jeremy Begora, Marco Colina, Rome Wallace, Jackson Kemp and James Basham - collected three hits.
The Mountain Lions hit four home runs in the game. Jarrett Ford, Begora and Kemp each hit two-run homers in the eight-run second inning, while Colina smashed a grand slam to highlight the six-run ninth inning. It was Begora's team-leading 13th long ball, while Kemp now has eight homers. Colina collected his sixth home run, while Ford now has four.
Colina and Wallace each added a triple, while Wallace had two doubles, and Ford and Basham had one each.
Begora and Colina each drove in five runs, while Ford knocked in four.
Brady Caloway (4-2) earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
