Bomb Threat Apparent Scam

On 02/22/24 at 12:16 PM a bomb threat was called in to the Clay County Department of Social Services located at 119 Courthouse Drive in Hayesville.

For a brief period, the building was evacuated while Clay County Sheriff’s Officers conducted a search for explosive devices with negative results.

Due to controlled access into the building and the specificity of the caller, the building was quickly deemed safe and was reoccupied.

The phone number of the caller was identified as originating from another country and from an apparent “scammer” with a foreign accent.
