Brasstown, North Carolina is a small unincorporated community located in the western part of the state, near the border with Georgia. The area has a rich history dating back to the 18th century, when it was first settled by European settlers.

The first known settlers in the Brasstown area were a group of Scotch-Irish immigrants who arrived in the 1770s. They were attracted to the region by the fertile land and abundance of natural resources, such as timber and minerals. The community quickly grew, and by the early 19th century, it had become a bustling center of agriculture and industry.

During the Civil War, Brasstown was a strategic location for both the Union and Confederate armies. The area was the site of several skirmishes and battles, and many local residents fought in the war. After the war, the community began to rebuild and recover.

In the late 19th and early 20th century, Brasstown experienced a period of rapid growth and development. The construction of new roads and railroads made it easier for people to travel to and from the community, and many new businesses and industries were established. The population also grew, and by the 1920s, it was one of the largest communities in the area.

However, the Great Depression of the 1930s brought economic hardship to the community, and many people were forced to leave in search of work. Despite this, the people of Brasstown remained resilient, and the community slowly began to recover.

In 1969, Tri County Racetrack opened in Brasstown, providing locals entertainment in the form of dirt track racing. In recent years, Tri County Racetrack has become well known in the world of racing as fans from all over the country have made their way to the Brasstown facility.

Along with the track, the John C. Campbell Folk School also brings in people from different areas of the world who want to learn the ways of the pioneers through various crafting and art classes. Participants come to the valley to try to connect with a simpler time and honor those who cut out a living in southern Appalachia.

Today, Brasstown is a small, tight-knit community with a rich history and culture. The community celebrates its history and heritage through annual festivals and events, such as the Brasstown Music and Arts Festival, which highlights the area's rich cultural heritage.

In conclusion, Brasstown, North Carolina has a rich history that spans over 250 years. From its humble beginnings as a small settlement of Scotch-Irish immigrants to its growth as a bustling center of agriculture and industry, the community has faced many challenges but has always remained resilient.
