Catamounts Host Wofford in Blackout Game

Western Carolina returns to Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center on Wednesday night as the Catamounts host Wofford at 7 p.m., in a crucial Southern Conference match-up. Wednesday’s game has been billed a “Blackout” with fans encouraged to wear black WCU gear to the game as the squad wears its black Nike uniforms.

As part of the Blackout promotion, the first 400 WCU students through the doors will receive a FREE Blackout T-shirt. Additionally, fans are encouraged to stay in their seats during halftime as the ever-popular ZOOperstars will perform, presented by WCU Residential Living.

As a reminder, WCU Athletics continues to adhere to a clear bag policy for all home men's and women's basketball games in the Ramsey Center. Only standard clear bags, 12-inches by 6-inches by 12-inches in size, small purses approximately 4.5-inches by 5-inches not including the strap, and clear gallon-size storage bags are permitted. Diaper bags (child must be present upon entry) and any medical-related bags will be allowed.

Wednesday’s game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live audio coverage on the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 6:30 p.m. Free live stats will be available via a link on

WCU enters Wednesday’s game with a 10-9 overall record and a 3-3 Southern Conference mark after a 65-61 setback on Saturday at The Citadel. Vonterius Woolbright scored a team-best 22 points for his second straight 20-point performance. Tyzhaun Claude added 17 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds, the most boards in a single game for a Catamount since the 1987-88 season when Andre Gault grabbed 21 rebounds against Ferrum. Claude’s 17 rebounds are the second-most by a player in the SoCon this season.

Wofford is 11-8 on the season and 3-3 in league games following an 86-67 home win over VMI on Saturday. Carson McCorkle came off the bench to lead the Terriers with 20 points, followed by BJ Mack with 19, Messiah Jones with 15, and Kyle Filewich with 10. Mack is the team’s leading scorer with 15.6 points per game – fourth-best in the SoCon – and is joined in double figures by Jackson Paveletzke with 13.9 points per game to rank 13th in the SoCon.

The Catamounts and Terriers have met 64 previous times with Wofford holding a 34-30 edge after sweeping the season series a year ago. WCU is 17-12 against the Terriers in Cullowhee.

Following Wednesday’s game, the Catamounts hit the road for a contest against current league-leader Samford at 6 p.m. ET /5 p.m. CT on Saturday at the Pete Hanna Center in Homewood, Ala.
