Catamounts Make Final Road Trip of Season Wednesday to UNCG

Western Carolina men’s basketball plays its final regular season road game on Wednesday as the Catamounts travel to in-state Southern Conference foe UNCG for a 7 p.m. tip-off inside the Greensboro Coliseum.

The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live audio from the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 6:30 p.m.

WCU is 16-13 overall and 9-7 in SoCon play following a 71-68 road victory over Mercer last Saturday to complete the season sweep of the Bears for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Tre Jackson led four Catamounts in double figures with 18 points.

UNCG is 19-10 on the season and 13-3 in league games after defeating Chattanooga 93-76 in a nationally televised contest in the Scenic City. Bas Leyte led the Spartans with 16 points and was joined in double figures by Keyshaun and Kobe Langley with 15 each and Keondre Kennedy with 13.

The Catamounts are solidly in fourth place in the SoCon standings entering the final week of the regular season while UNCG is in a two-way tie for second with Furman at 13-3, a game in arrears of Samford at 14-2.

Wednesday’s game is the 63rd all-time meeting with WCU leading the series 32-30. UNCG has won three straight matchups including a 72-49 victory on Dec. 29 in Cullowhee in the SoCon opener.

The Catamounts conclude the 2022-23 regular season on Saturday, hosting VMI at 4 p.m. in the first half of a Pack the RAC / Senior Night doubleheader with the WCU women’s team.
