Chiefs hold off Jackets for flag football win

On Monday, Oct. 3, the Chiefs and Jackets faced off to kickoff week three of the 12U flag football season at the Clay Country Recreation Center. It was a wild one, but the Chiefs managed to hold on to win 34-32.

The first touchdown of the game went to the Chiefs as Eli Cheeks crossed the goal line. Matthew Cothren put the first points on the board for the Jackets with a touchdown. By the halftime break, the Chiefs were up 14-6.

The second half had the crowd on the edge of their seats. The battle was epic and saw Lucy Trout contribute to the scoring for the Chiefs and Brandon Rivera picking up a 2-point conversion. For the Jackets, Levi Cody sped past several defenders to score a touchdown. Ackley Postel flexed his defensive muscle by snagging an interception for the Jackets.

After a back and forth battle, the Jackets' offense, led by quarterback Brady Gerdes, found themselves up 32-27. With four minutes left in the game, Chiefs quarterback Rhett Sellers threw a bomb to Cheeks for another touchdown. The 2-point conversion was good.

The Chiefs held on to get the close, 34-32 victory.
