Cruisers honor lost members

The Blairsville Cruisers Car Club honored past officers of the club who have passed away with a special MEMORIAL CRUISE-IN Saturday May 6th. The event at the Union County Farmers Market was a huge success with over 100 vehicles registered.
Past officers of the club honored were Tom Bruce and Pete Barley who both served as president of the club and Allora Couture who served as treasurer. Three special trophies were presented.. The BEST FORD trophy honoring Tom Bruce was presented to Ed Ashe of Hayesville NC for his 1969 Ford Fairlane Cobra. The BEST GM trophy honoring Pete Barley was presented to Buddy Lowe of Hayesville NC for his 1959 Chevy Apache pickup. The BEST STREET ROD trophy honoring Allora Couture was presented to Steve Kusak of Blairsville for his 1934 Ford Street rod. THE CLUB CHOICE trophy was presented Manny Rubiera of Sandersville Ga for his 1968 Hemi SuperBee.
The Blairsville Cruisers is a 501c 3 non-profit that raises funds year around for children in need in our local communities. Especially supporting the many local Christmas programs in the area. Shop with a Cruisers, Shop with a Cop Blairsville PD, Union County Sheriff GIVE-A-Gift, Shop with the Sheriff in Towns County, Shop with a Hero in Hiawassee and the Clay County Sheriff Cops for Kids program. The Cruisers want to assure that no child goes without at Christmas.
The club also helps out those in need year around. In addition Three Scholarships for Trade School students are available to those studying automotive trades at North Georgia Technical College Blairsville and at Tri-County Community College Murphy NC. Scholarship details and applications are on the BlairsvilleCruisers.com web site and are available during all club events.
We want to thank all who participated in this event as weel as all of the spectators who enjoyed the many vehicles on display.
