Drug Arrest At Local Storage Facility

Press Release

On 03/13/24 at approximately 2:05 AM, Clay County Sheriff’s Officer Drew Judge found a black car parked in a back row of the storage buildings located at 414 Old US Hwy 64 west in Hayesville. The car was noted to be running and a Jeremy Michael Hughes, 40 years of age from Franklin was passed out in the driver’s seat.

Officer Judge noted a glass pipe, consistent with the use of illegal drugs, in his right hand. Officer Judge called EMS and his supervisor, Sgt Steven Smith, to assist in case Hughes had overdosed. Upon entry to the car, Hughes awoke and was checked by Paramedics.

A subsequent search of the car yielded a yellow baggy containing suspected Methamphetamine and a piece of aluminum foil containing suspected Fentanyl from the driver’s side door. Hughes confirmed that these substances were in fact in fact Methamphetamine and Fentanyl.

Hughes was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substances and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Hughes was held without bond.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
