Bulldog sophomore sprinter Christopher Morales Williams has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Men’s Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement Monday.
Morales Williams, a native of Vaughan, Ontario, ran a world’s best 44.49 to win the men’s 400-meter dash at the Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Ark., over the weekend. His time shattered the meet, school, facility, Canadian and collegiate records. Morales Williams’ finish topped the former all-time fastest indoor 400m of 44.52 set by Michael Norman in 2018.
This is the fourth honor of its kind for the Georgia men since the USTFCCCA began giving weekly awards in 2015. Kendal Williams earned the honor in 2017 and Matthew Boling garnered one in 2022 and another in 2023.
Morales Williams and his other teammates who qualify will next participate at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Boston, Mass., on March 8-9.
