Goeling's hat trick propels Mountain Lions past Georgia Southwestern State 3-2

Mikkel Goeling registered his first hat trick of his career to lead Young Harris College past Georgia Southwestern State University 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Oct. 12) evening at Hurricane Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 6-4-3 overall and to 5-3-2 in the league, while the Hurricanes fell to 5-5-3 and 2-4-3. Young Harris returns to the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field Saturday (Oct. 15) for a 5 p.m. PBC match against the University of South Carolina-Aiken. The Mountain Lions will recognize their seven seniors prior to the match.


  • Goeling, who leads the team with six goals, scored in the 14th, 41st and 50th minute as Young Harris jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

  • Quinn Thompson, Pieter Hamhuis and Charlie Wilde recorded assists for the Mountain Lions.

  • The Hurricanes scored twice in the final 15 minutes on Chris Salamatou's goals.

  • The Mountain Lions held a 12-5 margin on shots, including a 5-4 edge on goal.

  • Each team tallied three corner kicks.
