Hamhuis named PBC Defender of the Week

Young Harris College's Pieter Hamhuis has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Defender of the Week ending Sept. 4.

Hamhuis led a Young Harris defense that limited Carson-Newman University to just five shots (and only two on goal) and handed the Eagles their first shutout of the season 1-0. The Mountain Lions were especially stingy in the second half, holding C-N to just one shot in the second half. The Hardenberg, Netherlands, native held Young Harris recorded their second shutout in three games this season and are currently second in the PBC with a 1.00 goals-against average and tied for the league lead in shutouts. The Mountain Lions return to action Saturday (Sept. 10) when they open up Peach Belt action with a 1 p.m. match at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field against Flagler College.
