HHS student-athletes advance to state championship
On Friday, May 12, qualifying athletes from Hayesville High School travelled to Valdese to compete in the Western North Carolina Championship track and field meet in hopes of moving on to the state championships.
Individuals and teams who finished fourth or better locked in their spot in the state championship to be held Friday, May 19 at NC A&T University. Not only did several Yellow Jackets advance, they also had their best performances of the season.
Lady Jackets:
Shot put: Lily Trout, fifth place
Discus: Lily Trout, second (PR)
High jump: Ella Matheson, fourth place
Triple jump: Ella Matheson, second place
400 meter run: Ava Shook, eighth place (PR)
100 meter hurdles: Emma Shook, third place (PR)
3200 meter run: Raelynn Wood, ninth place
4x100: Lila Roberts, Marley Espinal, Emma Shook, Ava Shook, fourth place
4x200: Lila Roberts, Marley Espinal, Emma Shook, Ava Shook, third place (New HHS record)
4x400: Skylar Lockaby, Lila Roberts, Marley Espinal, Ava Shook and alternate- Addison Sorrells, fourth place (PR)
4x800 meter relay: Briley Clampitt, Marley Espinal, Raelynn Wood, Lila Roberts and alternate Skylar Lockaby, seventh place (PR)

Shot put: Taylor McClure, third place; Will Brown, 12th place
Discus: Jeremy Graves, sixth place; Landon Trout, 12th place
Long jump: Logan Caldwell, seventh place
High jump: Isaac Chandler, 12th place
110 meter hurdles: Jacob Jones, 11th place
300 meter hurdles: Jacob Jones, seventh place (PR)
3200 meter run: Noah Carter, ninth place (PR); Landon Hughes, 12th place; Luke Lee, 13th place.
4x100 relay: Isaac Chandler, Kenyon Rogers-Gibby, Seth Leek and Taylor McClure, sixth place.
