HHS Volleyball Ends Week With Wins

It's been an eventful week for Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball players. Both the JV and varsity squads had three matches in the span of four days. The final event of the week saw Highlands enter The Hive Thursday, Aug.25 for the only scheduled meeting for the two schools this season.
On the varsity side of things, Hayesville looked unbeatable in the first set and cruised to a 25-9 win. In the second set, Highlands made a little more noise, but the Lady Jackets were able to take care of business and pulled to 2-0 match lead thanks to a 25-15 set-win.
The stage was set for a quick 3-set sweep win for the Lady Jackets, however, Highlands apparently hadn't read the script. The visitors pushed Hayesville to the limit, forcing the Lady Jackets beyond the 25-point mark. Hayesville was able to score 3 points in a row to get the 27-25 set win and the match victory.

For the JV Lady Jackets, Thursday's contest was a chance to return to the win column following a loss to Franklin earlier in the week. The opening set was an exciting one.
Hayesville would make runs, but Highlands would keep pace and stay within striking distance. During a timeout, coach Tammy Dills reminded her team that a lack of execution would lead to a loss. After the pep talk, the Lady Jackets seemed refocused and finished the drill to pick up the 25-20 win.
Set two was nothing like the first one as Hayesville was dominant, cruising to a 25-13 victory.
The teams will open Smoky Mountain Conference play in The Hive Tuesday, Aug. 29 when they host Swain County.
