HHS Volleyball Gets Another Non-Conference win
On Tuesday, Sept. 13, Hayesville High School's volleyball teams loaded up and headed to Sylva to take on the Smoky Mountain Lady Mustangs. While the varsity team came up short, the JV squad gave Jacket Nation something to celebrate.

For the varsity match, the Lady Jackets played hard and had legitimate shots of winning, but just couldn't get the ball to bounce in their favor. Smoky Mountain took the opening set, 25-21 to set the tone, but Hayesville refused to sit back and let Lady Mustangs cruise to a win. The traditional 25-point mark wasn't enough in the second set, but ultimately, Smoky Mountain had enough gas in the tank and went up 2-0 with a 26-24 set-win.
With their backs against the wall and facing defeat, the Lady Jackets kept up the fight in the third set. Hayesville managed to stay within striking distance, but the Lady Mustangs won the race to 25 with a 25-21 win which gave the home team a 3-0 match victory.
Things went better for the JV Lady Jackets. Hayesville looked impressive in the first set, downing Smoky Mountain 25-11. The second set wasn't as pretty as the first, but the Lady Jackets managed to hunker down when they had to in order to win the set 25-19 and the match 2-0.
Hayesville has a rare varsity-only affair on the road Thursday, Sept. 14 against Blue Ridge. Fans should note a special start time of 5 p.m.
