Highlands Spoils Hayesville's Season-Opener

The 2023 soccer season got underway for the Hayesville Yellow Jackets got underway on Wednesday, Sept.6. For their season-opener, the Jackets hosted the Highlands Highlanders. While the home team was full of hope, Highlands had no problem ruining the opener with a dominant 9-0 loss.

The event was a defensive battle until Highlands found the net with 17:01 left in the first half. After giving up the score, Hayesville settled in to again play strong defense until the Highlanders capitalized on an opportunity to go up 2-0 with 1:47 left in the half. Somehow, Highlands managed to stop the clock again with 0.3 seconds left to play, putting the Jackets in a 3-0 hole at the break.

Highlands didn't let halftime cool them down and continued their aggressive attack throughout the remainder of the match. By the sound of the final horn, the Highlanders had put up 9 unanswered points on the Jackets to get the win.

Hayesville will try to right the ship Monday, Sept. 11 in a road match against Tri County Early College. Start time is set for 6 p.m.
