As the sun started warming up on Saturday, April 30, so were the players for the inaugural cornhole tournament hosted by the Historic Beal Center in downtown Hayesville.

The tournament was headed up by Beal Center Executive Director and Clay County native Brooke Reynolds. "I wanted to come up with a way to raise funds for the center while also giving the community a chance to gather for a day of fun," said Reynolds. "I've put in a lot of time planning and working with great sponsors to organize this event and it's finally here."

When the final cornhole bag fell, Chris Rhinehardt and Peyton Long were crowned kings of the corn. Jason Rhinehardt and his partner Zach Cox had to settle for second place in the tournament.

"My hope is that this tournament continues to grow and becomes a bigger event each year," Reynolds commented.

All proceeds from the tournament will got towards the Historic Beal Center to help with maintenance and upkeep.
