Inaugural Russell Thomas Memorial Set for Thursday, September 22
The penultimate event on the 2022 schedule at Tri-County Race Track will take place this Thursday night, September 22, as the ground-pounding Super Late Models will headline the inaugural running of the ‘Russell Thomas Memorial.’
Russell Thomas, who passed away back in December 2021, was the 1995 Super Late Model Champion at Smoky Mountain Raceway in Whittier, North Carolina and was a multi-time feature winner at other area tracks across North Carolina and Georgia - including Tri-County Race Track. Russell’s racing career stretched from 1992-2008 and his largest payday behind the wheel of his familiar #57 Late Model was a $3,000 triumph at Toccoa (GA) Raceway. Please make plans to join us this Thursday to help celebrate the life and legacy of Morganton, Georgia driver Russell Thomas!
The Super Late Models will race for a $5,700 top prize on Thursday evening at the Brasstown, North Carolina bullring. The 57-lap main event will also shell out at least $500 to each feature starter. In addition, the family of Russell Thomas has also posted money for a quick six dash for the Super Late Models. The winner will receive an extra $500 out of a $1,000 total purse.
Also on the racing card on September 22 at Tri-County Race Track will be the Interstate Welding 602 Late Models. The A-Feature will boast a $1,000 payday, while the B-Feature will pay out a $200 first place prize. A regular show for the Street Stock, Open Wheel Modified, and Front Wheel Drive divisions will round out the racing program.
Huge thanks to our sponsors for this great event - Timbercraft Builders & Mason Tractor Company!
The pit gates at the “Tiger Pit” will swing open at 3:00pm on Thursday, while patrons will begin to select their seats in the grandstands starting at 4:00pm. The Drivers Meeting is scheduled to take place promptly at 6:00pm and hot laps will take to the racetrack at 6:30pm.
