Israel Widens Strikes

The Israeli military continued to carry out widespread airstrikes over the weekend in the Gaza Strip, combined with a second targeted incursion into the area. The efforts come ahead of a potential full-scale invasion of Israel into Gaza, the looming possibility of which officials have signaled for weeks. Phone and internet communications were knocked out late Friday in Gaza and partially restored as of yesterday evening.
Separately, a reported 33 trucks with humanitarian supplies arrived in Gaza via the Rafah crossing along the territory's border with Egypt (see map). International officials have called for an increase in supplies—an aid warehouse in the city of Deir al-Balah was broken into over the weekend.
The total death is approaching 10,000 people, including an estimated 1,400 Israelis and more than 8,000 Palestinians.
