Jackets Drop Close One To Swain County

The Hayesville Yellow Jacket soccer team welcomed Smoky Mountain Conference opponent Swain County on Wednesday, Sept. 13. In a match highlighted by defensive play, the Maroon Devils did enough to get the win by the final of 2-0.
After a Swain County goal early in the first half, the Yellow Jacket defense was a swarmin road block. Hayesville had a scoring opportunity with a corner kick which turned into a header shot that bounced off the goal post. A collective sigh filled Frank R. Long Stadium as Jacket Nation was disappointed and the Swain faithful were relieved.
The second half was more of the same with defense dominating the stanza with one lone score highlighting the period. While the Jackets were solid on defense, they never could find the back of the net to challenge the Devils' lead. Swain hung on for the 2-0 shutout win.
Next up fo the Yellow Jackets is a road game against rival Murphy on Monday, Sept. 18. Start time is set for 6 p.m. at Murphy High School.
