Jackets Drop Heartbreaker To Rival in The Hive

On Friday, January 27, the Hayesville Yellow Jackets took the court in front of big hometown crowd to square of with rival Murphy. Fans were treated to a fast-paced, physical game that came down to the wire. Unfortunately for the Jackets, Murphy was able to do just enough to win the game 44-41.

The atmosphere was great in The Hive as both fan bases showed up to cheer on their team. From the opening tip, it was clear the game would be a slobber-knocker for the entire four quarters. Lead changes happened on a regular basis, but neither team was able pull away from their foe. The Bulldogs took the lead in the closing seconds of the game, but Hayesville had a chance to send the game into overtime. With 0.8 seconds left, Isaac Chandler stepped to the foul line with the goal of hitting the rim. Hayesville's last hope would be a quick rebound, pass and 3-point shot. Chandler did his part by missing the shot, but the remaining time just wasn't enough.

Hayesville Leaders:

Landon Hughes: 12 points

Isaac Chandler: 10 points

Asher Brown: 8 points

Slade Crouch: 5 points

The Jackets now prepare for two tough road games against Swain on January 30 and Cherokee on February 2.
