Young Harris, GA| James Bixby of the Young Harris College men's tennis team has been red-hot as of late, earning him Mountain Lion of the Week honors. Jamie and the YHC men's tennis team are now undefeated under Marcy O'Connor, having defeated Shorter University on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon to move to 3-2 this season. Bixby played a large role in the victory over Shorter for Young Harris, winning a doubles match with partner Gregor Gottein (7-5) to earn help the Mountain Lions eventually earn a point after winning all three doubles matches; subsequently, Bixby defeated Sebastian Gomez from Shorter University in two sets (6-1 and 6-4), on the trail to a Mountain Lion 6-1 victory over the Hawks.
Lilly Griffith and the Mountain Lions women's basketball team have won seven of their last eight contests, with one win last week to put YHC above .500, taking down Barton College on senior day in the Enchanted Valley. This past week, Griffith recorded 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal for YHC. Lilly Griffith's defensive play was crucial for the YHC in their victory over Barton College and she hit a three-point shot to tie the game up at 61, eventually taking Young Harris to overtime, where they would win, 72-67. The Mountain Lions have advanced to 13-12 overall this season, and an important Conference Carolinas record of 10-7, which has the team currently ranked 6th in the KPI standings, with the playoffs starting up on Sunday, and a chance to host at The Harp Recreation and Commencement Center in Young Harris.
