Johnson named PBC Player of the Week

Young Harris College's Mackenzie Johnson has been named the Peach Belt Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week ending Nov. 27.


Johnson averaged a remarkable 16.0 points and 17.3 rebounds in three games last week. The junior forward from Chattanooga, Tennessee, was one shy of her career-high with 22 rebounds in a win over Mars Hill University, adding 16 points. She had nine points and nine boards in a loss to Tusculum University, then returned with 23 points and 21 rebounds in a win over Emory & Henry College. She shot 46 percent from the field and added three assists, two steals and two blocks on the week. Johnson leads NCAA Division II with 16.0 rebounds per game and is second in all three NCAA divisions. Her 22 boards against MHU are tied for the most in a single game in Division II so far this season while her 21 against E&H are tied for third. She also leads the PBC in scoring (17.5) and is third in field-goal percentage (.489). The Mountain Lions return to action Saturday (Dec. 3) when they host Lenoir-Rhyne University in a 1:30 p.m. contest inside the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.
