The Hayesville Yellow Jackets have already began their campaign to repeat as basketball state champions.

On Wednesday, June 14, The Jackets travelled across the county line to scrimmage the Franklin Panthers. According to the HHS coaching staff, things are falling into place. Players are beginning to feel more comfortable in their different rolls.

While the players adjust, so does do coach Mike Cottrell and his staff. Cottrell has been trying different what offensive and defensive schemes to figure out which game plans best utilize the talent of the individual players and fit in to the team's chemistry.

On the JV side of things, head coach Will Penland is excited about what he's seen during the month. "The team shows some promise as we return a good group of rising sophomores from last season and a promising group of rising 9th graders."

Members of Jacket Nation who have a craving for basketball can see the Jackets in action Friday, June 17 as they scrimmage Union County in Blairsville. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.
