JV Jackets Dominant In Season Opener

The JV football season is officially underway for Hayesville High School as the Yellow Jackets hosted Madison on Thursday, August 22. A beautiful late-summer day bathed Frank R. Long Memorial Stadium as Jacket Nation saw the Jackets dominate for 42-8 win.


Brett Hannah brought Jacket fans to their feet with 2:45 left in the first half when he pounded through the Madison defense for a touchdown. The 2-point conversion attempt was no good, keeping Hayesville's lead at 6-0 as the first quarter came to a close.


With 7:47 on the clock in the second quarter, Hannah snagged a pass from quarterback Logan Querns for his second touchdown of the game. This time, the 2-point conversion was good, increasing Hayesville's lead to 14-0.

On Madison's ensuing possession, the Patriots fumbled the ball, giving the Jackets the ball on their opponent's 37 yard line. It didn't take long for the Jackets to capitalize as Hannah went the distance for his third touchdown of the half. The 2-point conversion was good, giving Hayesville a 22-0 lead.


The home team wasn't finished scoring in the first half as Rylan Graves bounced outside for a long touchdown run. Caden McClure powered in for a 2-point conversion to extend the lead to 30-0.


Hannah once again earned cheers from the home crowd with 2:47 left in the third quarter when he hit the end zone for his fourth touchdown of the game. The 2-point conversion attempt was snuffed out, but Hayesville's lead was an impressive 36-0.

McClure added an additional touchdown in the fourth to put the Jackets up 42-0 and initiating a running clock.


With just under 2:00 left in the game, Madison hit the end zone for their first score of the game. The 2-point conversion was good, making the final score 42-8.


The Jackets will open Smoky Mountain Conference play on Thursday, September 5th on the road against the Murphy Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
