JV Jackets Take On Murphy
Updated: Sep 1

On Thursday, Aug. 31, the JV Yellow Jacket football team hosted their chief rival, Murphy. Hayesville entered the contest off an unexpected bye week and with a 1-0 record. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, rolled into Hayesville looking for their first win of the season. After a defensive struggle, Murphy had just enough offense to get the 12-6 victory.
The biggest play of the first quarter came when Murphy snagged and interception, but the Yellow Jacket defense was up to the challenge and kept their rival off the scoreboard. Unfortunately, on the ensuing possession, Hayesville was unable to make much progress and punted the ball away. The first half ended with a deadlock 0-0 score.

With 5:17 left in the third quarter, Murphy connected on a 28-yard pass for the first touchdown of the game. The 2-point conversion was no good, limiting the Bulldog lead to 6-0. The quarter ended with a Murphy fumble, which was recovered by the Dogs.
On a fourth and fourth and 4, Kabe Shaheen came through in a big way as he cause a fumble which was picked up by Landon Cheeks. A personal foul put the Jackets at the 15-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Johan Webb scampered in for a touchdown at the 7:26 mark of the fourth quarter. The 2-point conversion was no good and the rivals were once again tied, 6-6.
With 3:55 left to play, Murphy found the end zone again. The Yellow Jacket defense did a great job in stopping the 2-point conversion to stay within 6 points, 12-6. Hayesville found themselves in a fourth and 13 situation with 2:07 to go. A run to the outside put the Jackets close, but not close enough and Murphy took over. The visitors kept the ball on the ground to run the clock out, giving Murphy the 12-6.
