The largest crowd to see a JV volleyball match this season filled The Hive on Tuesday, Aug. 30 to watch the Lady Yellow Jackets take on the rival Lady Bulldogs from Murphy.

Anxiety was high and a back and forth opening set didn't squash the big-match feel. The two teams battled for every point and tried to grab momentum to get the crucial set win. Ultimately, the Lady Jackets put together a late-set run to take the 25-17 victory.

Down 1-0 and trying to avoid being swept off of Hayesville's home court, Murphy tightened up their play in the second set. Unlike the first set, the Lady Jackets were unable to make a run and found themselves behind as the Lady Bulldogs closed in on the needed 25 points.

Refusing to lose, Hayesville hunkered down and came roaring back to get the 26-24 set win and the 2-0 match victory.

"The team has been playing hard," said head coach Tammy Dills. "Now that we are into conference play, the more we need to be like a well-oiled machine."

Hayesville will travel to Bryson City on Thursday, Sept. 1 to face Swain County. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
