JV Volleyball Completes Second Consecutive Perfect SMC Season

Updated: Oct 19

The JV Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball team traveled to Andrews High School on Wednesday, Oct. 18 to play their final match of 2023. The final contest of the season was a face off with Cherokee for the Smoky Mountain Conference tournament championship. Hayesville had defeated the Lady Braves two times in the regular season. Hearts were in throats, but the Lady Jackets showed their grit, winning the championship match 2-0.

Set one made it seem like it was going to be a cakewalk for Hayesville in set one. The Lady Jackets got off to a dominating start, winning the opening set 25-11.

Cherokee wasn't intimidated and came out ready to fight in set two. The Lady Braves had the lead, 17-15, making Jacket Nation nervous. However, Hayesville stayed the course, didn't get rattled and evened things up. A fitting end to the season, the teams needed more than the 25-point mark. A flurry of back-and-forth volleys ended when the Lady Jackets scored the final 2 points to put Cherokee away 27-25.

With the win, Hayesville completes a perfect 12-0 SMC season, their second in a row. In the last two years, the Lady Jackets are 24-0 in the conference, have two regular season conference championships, two conference tournament championships and have taken down a number of 3A schools.

For the sophomores who have been on the squad during this amazing run, these two season will forever be implanted in their memories. As for the freshmen, they now have the challenge of carrying on the legacy and making it three in a row.

Go Lady Jackets!
