Lady Jackets advance to round two of the state tournament

On Saturday, Oct. 22, the varsity Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball team made the long drive to Greensboro to take on Cornerstone Charter in the opening round of the NCHSAA state championship tournament.
Following a lengthy bus ride, Hayesville got off to a slow start and the Lady Cardinals took advantage, winning the first set 25-18.
In set two, the Lady Jackets came roaring back in a big way. Hayesville evened the overall score at 1-1 with a 25-16 set win.
Momentum stayed with the visiting team in set three. The Lady Jackets were even more impressive in that set, dominating with a 25-10 win to go up 2-1.
Cornerstone Charter turned things around in the fourth set. The Lady Cardinals refused to concede the match and came roaring back with a 25-19 win to force a deciding set five.
That fifth set was a nail-biter for both fan bases. In the race to the needed 15 points, each volley is intense. Hayesville was able to outlast the Lady Cardinals for the 15-13 set win and the 3-2 match victory.
Next up for the Lady Jackets is a round two showdown with Uwharrie Carter in Asheboro. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
