Lady Jackets just miss comeback win

The varsity Lady Yellow Jacket softball team refused to quit against Murphy on Thursday, May 5. Playing on their home field, the Lady Jackets kept things close through much of the game. Despite a 4-run seventh inning, Hayesville fell 9-7 to their rival.
The Story: Hayesville was down 2-0 in the second, but were able to get on the board with a run. The Lady Bulldogs plated a pair in the third. In the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Jackets scored 2 to make the score 4-3 in Murphy's favor.
Scoring in the fifth and sixth innings were exclusive to the Lady Bulldogs. When Hayesville came up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, the score was 9-3. The Lady Jackets were able to perform under pressure, manufacturing a rally with 4 runs. Unfortunately, that was as close as they got and the Lady Jackets ended their season with a heart-breaking 9-7 loss.
Key Contributors: Senior Lila Payne homered to centerfield in the second inning. Sophomore Gracelynn Anderson got her first career homerun, a 2-run shot in the third inning.
Noteworthy: Hayesville ends the season 4-10 overall and 2-10 in the Smoky Mountain Conference which put them in sixth place.
