Lady Jackets sweep Blue Ridge out of The Hive

On Tuesday, Sept. 20, the varsity Lady Yellow Jacket volleyball squad were in The Hive hosting the visiting Lady Bobcats from Blue Ridge Early College. It was a rare event for the team as neither the middle school nor JV squads had matches, meaning the match had a special start time of 5 p.m. Hayesville was able to defend their homecourt in convincing style, winning 3-0.

In the opening set, the Lady Jackets pulled out to an early lead and rode the wave of momentum to a 25-15 set victory and it looked like Hayesville would cruise to an easy match victory.

Blue Ridge wasn't ready to just give up after one set and brought the fight to the Lady Jackets in the second set. In fact, the Lady Bobcats led through the early stages of the set, but Hayesville managed to pull even with the score of 16-16. The Lady Jackets were able to move ahead, but Blue Ridge kept fighting. Thankfully for Jacket Nation, the home team was able to close out the set with a 25-21 win.

Going down 2-0 seemed to de-claw the Bobcats and the third set quickly got lopsided. The Lady Jackets came out to a hot start and stayed on the throttle, making quick work of Blue Ridge, taking the set 25-7 and clinching the match win.

Senior Emma Shook was money from the serve line and Phoebe Pietila had no problem hitting the floor to keep volleys alive. On the net, Madison Moore was a nuisance for Blue Ridge with multiple blocks and Anneliese Scheu fired off hits across the net on a regular basis.

With the victory, the Lady Jackets improve their record to 8-6 overall.
