Press Release

On Saturday, April 20th, the Clay County Sheriff's office participated in a regional event that took place in the 7 western counties of North Carolina. Clay County Sergeant Steven Smith coordinated with the North Carolina Department Of Health and Human Services Forensic Testing for Alcohol Branch who provided a mobile testing station called the BAT mobile.

Using the resources provided, our officers were joined by members of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol to conduct drivers license checking stations that were effective in leading to the arrest of 3 intoxicated drivers and led to the issuance of citations of 4 separate unlicensed drivers. A total of 5 arrests were made with two of those being arrested for drug related charges. The Clay county sheriff's office would like to extend our appreciation to the Highway Patrol and the FTA Branch of the Department of Health and Human Services for their participation in keeping the citizens of Clay County safe as they travel the roads.
