Local Law Enforcement Agencies team up for road checks

A multiple agency safety road check was conducted Thursday afternoon in a joint effort by Towns and Clay County Sheriffs Offices.


The “Hands Across The Border” safety road checks were conducted simultaneously at three locations

-State Hwy. 66 at the GA/NC line -Hwy. 17 at the GA/NC line -Hwy 75 at the GA/NC line


The safety road checks were supported by the Georgia Office of Highway Safety, Georgia State Patrol, Cherokee Co. NC Sheriffs Office, Dawson County Sheriffs Office, McCaysville Police Department, Holly Springs Police Department, Hiawassee Police Department, Habersham County Sheriffs Office and the Department of Natural Resources.


The joint safety road check yielded the following: 1-Possession of Meth 1-Possession of Marijuana 1-Possession of Meth with the intent to distribute 1-Open Container 1-Driving while License Suspended 4-driving while unlicensed 2-Duis 6-other citations


Sheriffs Ken Henderson and Bobby Deese both expressed the importance of multiple agencies working together with one goal in mind which is to keep our roadways and community safe.


Safety road checks are a proactive approach to deter criminal activity and will continue.

Both Sheriff Henderson and Sheriff Deese want to thank all agencies that participated.
