Men’s Basketball Hosts USC Upstate in Saturday Doubleheader

The Western Carolina men’s basketball team concludes a two-game homestand on Saturday as the Catamounts host USC Upstate in the back end of a hoops doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. with the WCU women’s team as they face UAB at 2 p.m.

Saturday’s game will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) as well as on the Catamount Sports Network beginning at 5 p.m. Live stats will also be available on

WCU Athletics continues to enforce a clear bag policy for all home men's and women's basketball games in the Ramsey Center. Only standard clear bags, 12-inches by 6-inches by 12-inches in size, small purses approximately 4.5-inches by 5-inches not including the strap and clear gallon-size storage bags are permitted. Diaper bags (child must be present upon entry) and any medical-related bags will be allowed.

WCU is 4-4 following a 71-55 home loss to Gardner-Webb on Wednesday. Tre Jackson tallied a team-high 14 points and also grabbed a career-best seven rebounds, six coming on the defensive glass. Tyzhaun Claude and Vonterius Woolbright both contributed 11 points while Russell Jones Jr. scored eight points and swiped three steals.

USC Upstate is 3-4 after earning a 93-59 home victory against Columbia International on Wednesday. Jordan Gainey led the Spartans with a career-best 26 points as all five starters finished in double figures for the game. Gainey is the leading scorer for USC Upstate this season with an average of 15.9 points per game and is joined in double figures by Trae Broadnax with 10.3 points per game.

The teams have met twice before with WCU earning a 78-73 win in Spartanburg last season and USC Upstate claiming a 72-58 win as part of the 2013 Coaches vs Cancer Classic in Kent, Ohio.

WCU hits the road on Wednesday, heading to former Southern Conference rival Davidson for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
