For the first time in program history, the Young Harris College men's basketball team is nationally ranked.

The Mountain Lions, who are off to the best start in program history at 10-0, are ranked 18th in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Rankings. YHC is one of six remaining unbeaten NCAA Division II institutions remaining.

"To be the first team in program history to be ranked in the national polls is great honor for everyone in our locker room," said Young Harris men's basketball coach Jeremy Currier. "I am tremendously proud of our student-athletes. Their hard work, dedication and loyalty have pushed our program on this trajectory.

"We had a successful first semester on the court and in the classroom, and remain focused on the goals that we set as a team before the season began," added Currier.

YHC is one of three Peach Belt Conference institutions in this week's poll. Augusta University (10-1) is ranked 11th, while the University of North Georgia (9-1) is slotted at No. 24.

The Mountain Lions return from the holiday break Saturday (Dec. 31) when they host the University of Virginia's College at Wise in a 4 p.m. non-conference contest inside the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center.

Men's basketball is the third YHC program to be nationally ranking, joining men's soccer and baseball.

The NABC poll is for publicity purposes only and is not used in the selection process for the NCAA Division II postseason.
