Press Release
Young Harris men's basketball announced their 2024-25 schedule today. The Mountain Lions tip off the season with an epic exhibition against Division I opponent Louisville on October 21st. Young Harris will host 13 home games in the Harp this season, starting with their home opener on Homecoming weekend against an NCAA Tournament qualifier last year, Wingate University, on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 p.m. The team will also host their annual Purple and White scrimmage on Thursday, October 31st.
Coach Currier states, "We wanted to put together a balanced schedule that would prepare us for the Conference Carolinas slate. This year we will play some of the best teams in the country as we are facing the Peach Belt Conference championship team, the South Atlantic Conference championship team, and of course the Conference Carolinas championship team." Continuing, "To have nine road games before Christmas, and face five of the eight NCAA Tournament teams from our region will help us to reach our ultimate goal of reaching our full potential as a team."
Young Harris College opens the regular season with three road games: Georgia College, North Georgia, and Catawba before returning to the friendly confines of the DEN. After the home opener against Wingate, the Mountain Lions travel to Lees McRae College for their first Conference Carolinas game on Saturday, November 23rd, at 4:00 p.m.
After Thanksgiving, Young Harris hosts Toccoa Falls bright and early in the Harp on Tuesday, November 26th at 11:00 a.m. for our annual Education Day. YHC wraps up the month of November with a conference road test against Francis Marion on Saturday, November 30th.
The Mountain Lions tackle two home games and go on an extended road trip in December. Erskine College and Voorhees visit the Harp on December 7th and 11th, respectively. Then Young Harris hits the road for a three-game stint starting at Clayton State on December 14th. The team travels to face Belmont Abbey on the following Tuesday and finishes their road trip at Columbus State University on Friday.
The Young Harris men's basketball team will hit the road for most of January, as the Mountain Lions play four road games, with just three home games sprinkled in. The first two games of the month are home contests against newly added Conference Carolinas opponents Shorter University and Chowan University. The Mountain Lions split the following games, with the Barton game on the road, before returning home one last time for January to face Francis Marion University. The first month of 2025 comes to a close with three Conference Carolinas road games against Southern Wesleyan, Belmont Abbey, and Shorter University.
February is a great month to be a basketball fan in the north Georgia area as the Mountain Lions host four straight conference home games starting against Converse University on the first of the month. Young Harris then hosts Emmanuel the following Wednesday and UNC Pembroke on Saturday. The home stand comes to a close on Tuesday, February 11th against Southern Wesleyan University.
Last season, the Mountain Lions finished second in the Southwest Division with a 5-3 record. This season the Purple and White play seven division games. Young Harris begins division play on December 4th at Emmanuel. The Mountain Lions play Emmanuel, Southern Wesleyan, and Erskine both at home and on the road. North Greenville hosts Young Harris in the lone head-to-head matchup of the season.
The Mountain Lions face Lees-McRae College on Saturday, February 22nd at 4:00 p.m. in their final regular season home game. The game features Senior Day recognition, which will take place before tip off.
Young Harris men's basketball will build off the success from the 2023-24 season where they finished 17-12 overall and 11-7 in conference play. 11 conference wins were the most for the program since 2014-15. The sky's the limit for Young Harris in 2024-25. The team returned its entire starting lineup, added five talented freshmen ready to compete for a starting spot, and boasts an experienced roster of 13 upperclassmen.
