The Hive was clad in pink on Thursday, Oct. 5 when Hayesville hosted Robbinsville for the annual Breast Cancer Awareness fundraiser night. The Lady Knights managed to win two out of the three contests, but the one win for Hayesville was a big one.

In the highlight of the evening, the JV Lady Jackets were absolutely dominant. Hayesville made quick work of the Lady Knights in set one with a 25-6 win. Set two didn't go much better for the away team. The Lady Jackets took the second set 25-10 to clinch the 2-0 match victory. With the win, the team was able to celebrate 730 days, or 2 years, since losing to a Smoky Mountain Conference opponent.

For the varsity squad, it was a night of "almost." Hayesville put up a fight in the opening set, forcing extra-play with the Lady Knights eventually getting the 26-24 win. Set two was a virtual replay of set one, with Robbinsville again needing to go beyond the 25-point mark in order to get the needed 2-point margin of victory. The final of 26-24 put the Lady Jackets in a 2-set hole.

Hayesville stayed alive in the third set with a 25-23 win. However, set four saw momentum return to Robbinsville's side of the floor and the Lady Knights ended Hayesville's hopes with another 26-24 set win. With scores that close, a couple of bounces could have totally changed the outcome of the match.

Hayesville Middle School fought hard, but fell 2-0 to Robbinsville.

At the end of the night, more than $500 had been raised for breast cancer with Robbinsville donating $200.

The final home game of the season for Hayesville will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 10 when the Lady Jackets host Andrews.
