Miller Earns 200th Career Win as WCU Blanks Presbyterian 4-0

Western Carolina head women's soccer coach Chad Miller earned his 200th career win on Thursday night as the Catamounts blanked Presbyterian 4-0 on Edens Field at Martin Stadium in the final nonconference match of the regular season.
WCU improves to 3-2-3 on the season heading into the start of Southern Conference play next week. Presbyterian drops to 1-6-1.
“I am blessed to have been able to coach as long as I have,” said Miller following the milestone victory. “It is a lot of hard work and commitment by so many people – the players past and present – all the great assistants I have had the pleasure of coaching with, and some good administrators through the years for supporting me. It has never been about stats or numbers for me; it is about relationships, memories, and helping others. That is what I will always treasure."
The Blue Hose had the first shot of the match just under two minutes into the contest, but Catamount keeper Leanne Trudel made the save to keep the hosts at bay. The Catamounts had the next four shots that included a pair of saves before Maggie Lloyd tallied her first goal of the season at the 18:24 mark of the first half with an assist by Naya Marcil.
Less than a minute later, Marcil tied the team lead in goals with her fifth of the season to give WCU a 2-0 lead at the 19:09 mark. Marcil’s goal was assisted by Isabella DeMarco. WCU outshot Presbyterian 7-2 in the opening stanza and Trudel made a pair of saves, carrying the 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Kirsten Hahn scored her first goal of the season at the 78:48 mark for a 3-0 advantage. Then, for the second time this season, the DeMarco sisters teamed up for a goal as Isabella DeMarco assisted Alexis DeMarco’s first goal of the season at 83:33 to provide the final tally.
Isabella DeMarco’s three assists are a career-high and represent the second-most in a match in program history with the school record being five assists. The Catamounts outshot Presbyterian 16-4 including nine shots in the second half. Trudel made two saves for her third shutout of the season.
WCU is off until opening the conference portion of the schedule next Thursday at preseason league favorite Samford. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required).
