Mountain Lions Battle the Elements at the Cherokee Valley Spring Bash

Young Harris Women's Golf persevered through the tough weather conditions on Monday and Tuesday at the Cherokee Valley Spring Bash and came away with a 7th place finish. Connor Johnson led the Mountain Lions, finishing the tournament in 5th with a score of 159 (+5). Shorter University won the tournament, shooting +59.



QUOTING HEAD COACH JOHN LICHTENWALNER:


"We had very tough conditions today and the golf course was quite difficult. I am happy with how the women dealt with this. We just need to focus on the simple things leading up to the conference championship next week, specifically wedge play and putting."



INSIDE THE SCORECARD:

  • Young Harris scored 354 in round one and 345 in round two to complete the 36-hole tournament at 699.

  • Connor Johnson led the way, shooting a (+7) 79 in round one. She picked up birdies on holes one and three and strung together seven pars. In round two, Johnson made nine pars and birdied 15 on her way to a +8 (80). Her two great rounds earned her a fifth-place finish.

  • Tamara Brito tied for tenth place with four others. Brito shot an 85 in round one and improved in round two, carding a 79 to finish +20.

  • Lucy Wiegert wasn't far behind Brito in a three-way tie for 23rd at 25 over par. Wiegert shot 84 and 85 and secured 15 pars in the rainy conditions.

  • Young Harris Women's Golf travels to Spartanburg S.C. for the Conference Carolinas Championship from Sunday, April 14th – Tuesday, April 16th.
