Mountain Lions clip Nighthawks 2-0

The Young Harris College men's soccer team shut out their Blood Mountain rivals the University of North Georgia 2-0 in a Peach Belt Conference match Wednesday (Sept. 14) evening at the UNG Soccer Complex.


The Mountain Lions recorded their third clean sheet in the past four matches as they improved to 2-1-2 overall and to 1-0-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Nighthawks fell to 3-4-0 and 0-3-0. YHC remains on the road for a 1 p.m. PBC match Saturday (Sept. 17) in Greenwood, South Carolina, against Lander University. Either Young Harris or Lander has won the Peach Belt title every season since 2012, with the Mountain Lions winning PBC crowns in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2021.


INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Both Young Harris goals came off corner kicks.

  • The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead at the 14:04 mark. On a YHC corner kick, Sacha DeCorte corralled a loose ball in the box and slotted the ball inside the right post for his first goal of the season to give YHC the early lead.

  • Young Harris doubled their lead less than five minutes into the second half. Edoardo Righetti served the ball from the left side into the box where Pato Padilla headed the ball into the back of the net. It was Padilla's second goal of 2022.

  • Henrik Timgren recorded three saves in goal for the Mountain Lions as he picked up his second shutout of 2022.

  • YHC outshot UNG 11-9, including a 6-3 edge on goal.

  • The Mountain Lions held a 4-3 margin on corner kicks.

  • YHC holds a 15-3-1 record against the Nighthawks.
