The Young Harris College baseball team battled Belmont Abbey College in round one of the Conference Carolinas Championship on Thursday (May 2) at Caromont Health Park. Young Harris lost in round one, by a score of 10-2. The Mountain Lions historic season does not come to an end, as they are set to play in the elimination bracket tomorrow afternoon.

QUOTING HEAD COACH STEPHEN WAGGENER: "Tough loss today. We had some chances to drive in runs in middle innings and get back in the game. We just weren't able to get the big hits to keep those innings alive. The positive is we were able to limit the amount of work for most of our staff and will still have those guys later in the tournament if we can get rolling."

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • The Crusaders jumped out to a nine-run lead through their first seven innings at the plate, and YHC could never recover.

  • Jack Enrico drove in the Mountain Lions only two runs of the game, on a single to center field in the bottom of the seventh inning.

  • Starter Zachary Murray pitched four innings for the Mountain Lions, and four runs, while striking out six Belmont Abbey hitters; Murray received the loss for YHC, as the offense never got their bats going.

  • Garrett Browder recorded four RBIs on two hits for BAC. Caleb Burr, Todd Velotta, and Carter DuHaime each drove in two runs for the Crusaders.

  • Alex Sniffen picked up the win for Belmont Abbey, as he went seven innings on the mound with just two runs surrendered, and eight K's.

  • BAC outhit YHC 15 to 6, on their way to a 10-2 victory.

ON DECK:The Mountain Lions will play on Friday (May 3) as part of the elimination bracket in Gastonia
