Mountain Lions, Flames split doubleheader

Young Harris College and Lee University split a softball doubleheader Wednesday (Feb. 15) afternoon at Butler Field.
The Mountain Lions won game one 8-4, while the Flames took game two 15-7 in five innings. YHC improved to 5-7, while Lee fell to 3-6. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (Feb.18) with a noon doubleheader against Lake Erie College in its home opener at the YHC Soccer Field.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
GAME 1
The Mountain Lions scored twice in the first, third, fifth and seventh innings.
YHC took a 2-0 lead on Hannah Carey's two-run homer to center field.
Shea Bayreuther's two-run single to center gave Young Harris a 4-1 lead in the third.
Carey added an RBI double and Trinity Aycock contributed a run-scoring single in the seventh.
Aubrey Bourrie and Carey led the Mountain Lions with three hits apiece.
Kylie Ferguson (2-3) struck out six in five innings, while Gracie Hughes pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn her first save of the season.
GAME 2
The Mountain Lions scored a run in the first and six more in the second inning, but the Flames responded with 14 unanswered runs.
Carey added a solo homer to left-center in the first inning.
Erin Chambliss had a two-run double in the second ahead of Carey's second home run - a two-run shot to left - for her fifth homer of 2023.
Carey, Aycock, Chambliss had two hits each for YHC.
Grace Young (1-1) took the loss in relief.
