Mountain Lions now ranked 17th nationally in NABC poll

The Young Harris College men's basketball team jumped five positions to 17th in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Rankings.

The No. 17 ranking is the highest-ever in program history, surpassing the No. 18 ranking earlier this month. YHC, which is off to its best-ever start at 14-1, won two games on the road last week. The Mountain Lions defeated Columbus State University 69-54 before recording an 89-84 overtime decision over Flagler College.

Young Harris, which is 5-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, is one of two Peach Belt institutions in this week's poll. Augusta University is now ranked sixth.

The Mountain Lions will play two games this week. YHC will travel to Milledgeville, Georgia, Wednesday (Jan. 18) for a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest against Georgia College & State University, before returning to the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. league game against the University of South Carolina-Aiken Saturday (Jan. 21).

Men's basketball is the third YHC program to be nationally ranking this year, joining men's soccer and baseball.

The NABC poll is for publicity purposes only and is not used in the selection process for the NCAA Division II postseason.
