Mountain Lions release 2022 men's soccer schedule

Young Harris College men's soccer coach Dean Grey has released the upcoming 2022 schedule for the Mountain Lions.
"We're expecting massive challenges in every contest this season," said Grey. "I think we saw last year, anyone can beat anyone on their day. The competitiveness/emotions are always extreme, especially when you have to play everyone home and away in the Peach Belt Conference."
INSIDE THE SCHEDULE:
The Mountain Lions, who are ranked No. 11 in the preseason United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25 poll, will play 15 matches in the regular season, including seven inside the friendly confines of the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
Young Harris is 90-13-7 (.850 winning percentage) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field since the start of the 2010 season.
The Mountain Lions will open the season with three non-conference matches. YHC kicks off the season with a non-conference match against Lenoir-Rhyne University Aug. 25 in Hickory, North Carolina, followed by a trip to Gaffney, South Carolina, Aug. 28 to face Limestone University. The Mountain Lions return to the Enchanted Valley for their final non-conference match Aug. 31 against Carson-Newman University at 5 p.m.The Mountain Lions are 2-1 all-time against L-R, 9-1 against Limestone and 6-1 against Carson-Newman.
The remainder of the schedule will be against Peach Belt Conference members as teams will again play a home-and-home against each opponent in 2022. The Mountain Lions, who were picked to finish second in the Peach Belt this season, will face Flagler College at home Sept. 10, before hitting the road to face Blood Mountain rival University of North Georgia Sept. 14 and Lander University Sept. 17. Home matches against Georgia Southwestern State University (Sept. 21) and Clayton State (Sept. 28) are sandwiched around an away date Sept. 24 against the University of South Carolina-Aiken.
The second half of the PBC schedule flips sites as YHC will travel to Flagler (Oct. 1), Georgia Southwestern State (Oct. 12) and Clayton State (Oct. 22), while the Mountain Lions host North Georgia (Oct. 5), Lander (Oct. 8) and USC AIken (Oct. 15).
The Mountain Lions hold winning records against all PBC opponents. Leading the way is a 14-3-1 mark against North Georgia while YHC has 12 wins against Clayton State (12-4-0), 11 wins against USC Aiken (11-1-1) and 10 wins against Flagler (10-1-1), Lander (10-4-3) and Georgia Southwestern State (10-1-0).
Mikkel Goeling, Saad Maziane and Quinn Thompson were named to the preseason all-conference team from Young Harris. Goeling led the Mountain Lions with 14 goals a year ago, while Maziane accounted for 12. Thompson led YHC with 11 assists.
Either Young Harris or Lander has won the Peach Belt title every season since 2012, with the Mountain Lions winning PBC crowns in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, 2019 and 2021.
All seven teams will qualify for the Peach Belt Tournament in 2022. The first round will feature the No. 7 seed traveling to face the No. 6 seed Oct. 25. The second round (Oct. 28) and semifinal (Oct. 30) will matches will be played at the top two seeds. The two semifinal winners will meet for the tournament championship at the highest-remaining seed Nov. 6. YHC has won five PBC Tournament titles (2014, 2015, 2016 , 2018 and 2021) in program history.
