Mountain Lions slam Dragons 19-6

Three different Young Harris College baseball players hit a grand slam as the Mountain Lions defeated Lane College 19-6 in seven innings Wednesday (March 15) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.


The Mountain Lions improved to 17-7, while the Dragons fell to 6-17. Young Harris returns to action Friday (March 17) with a 6 p.m. Peach Belt Conference contest against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida.


INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Mountain Lions tied an NCAA Division II record for grand slams in a contest with three. The record is held by Salem University (2018) and Armstrong State University (2007).

  • Jeremy Begora smacked the first grand slam with a first inning shot to left-center field. It was his fourth long ball of 2023.

  • Jackson Kemp followed with a grand slam to left field in the third. It was Kemp's fourth homer of the season.

  • The final grand slam came in the fifth as Rome Wallace connected with a shot to left. It was Wallace's third of the campaign.

  • Begora led the Mountain Lions with six RBI, while Kemp drove in five and Wallace four.

  • YHC collected 13 hits as Ahmir Cournier, Ethan Underwood, Kemp, Begora, and Dawson Barnes had two hits each.

  • Colby Williams (1-0) earned the win.
