The Mountain Lions have started off their time in Conference Carolinas on fire, with a three-game sweep in their inaugural Conference Carolinas series. YHC took down Erskine College 8-4 in game one, and 5-3 in game two on Saturday (Feb. 24) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field in Young Harris, Georgia. Throughout the series, the Mountain Lions outscored the Flying Fleet, 18-8, and continuously came in clutch when it mattered most.
Young Harris improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas play, while Erskine dropped to 7-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play. The Mountain Lions return to action on Tuesday (Feb. 27) afternoon when they hit the road and travel to Mars Hill, N.C. to take on Mars Hill University.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Game 1 (Seven Innings)
Dale Francis put the Flying Fleet ahead 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single.
The Mountain Lions retaliated by hanging up four runs in the bottom of the first, with Steven Spell hitting an RBI single, Jarrett Ford scoring on a wild pitch, Jack Enrico delivering an RBI SAC fly, and Mark Castle delivering an RBI double.
Erskine fought back and tied it at four with a homerun in the third coming from Jorge Pascual and an RBI single in the fourth off the bat of David Hernan.
Young Harris hung up four more in the fourth inning on walks and singles; Jeremy Begora, Spell, Enrico, and Castle all ended up with RBIs in the inning.
Castle, Enrico, and Spell ended up with two RBIs, and Travis Burnette picked up his third win of the season.
Game 2 (Nine Innings)
YHC fell behind Erskine 3-0 in the top half of the fifth inning, after a handful of wild pitches, and errors netted the Flying Fleet a 3-0 lead.
The Mountain Lions stormed back and took the lead, 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth, scoring on a throwing error, a Drew Bray RBI double, and a balk.
Young Harris added an insurance run to strengthen their lead to 5-3 on a bases-loaded walk by Jarrett Ford.
Zack Hart picked up his third win of the season, after pitching five innings, and surrendering three runs, with just two being earned by Erskine.
Ryan Heishman came in for YHC and threw four dominant innings to shut down the Flying Fleet offense, ending the game with three strikeouts, while getting all 12 batters faced out without allowing a single baserunner in his appearance.
