Western Carolina softball senior first baseman Myra Twitty has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week for the games played April 11-17 as announced by the league office. It is Twitty’s first weekly award of her Catamount career.
Twitty hit .500, slugged 1.625 and had an on-base percentage of .667 on the week, going 4-for-8 with four walks, four home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored. The senior from Morganton, North Carolina, opened her week with a 1-for-2 effort in the Catamounts’ 9-1 setback to No. 15 Tennessee on Wednesday before going off for three homers in as many games as Western Carolina won a league series from Mercer.
Twitty hit solo shots and drew walks in both ends of Friday’s doubleheader, which the teams split, then drew two walks and hit a go-ahead grand slam in the bottom of the fifth in Saturday's series-clinching 5-3 win.
Western Carolina will host Presbyterian Tuesday, April 19, in the final nonconference doubleheader of the season. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
