Mikkel Goeling's header with 3:59 remaining was the difference as No. 11 Young Harris College shut out Carson-Newman University 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Aug. 31) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 1-1-1, while the Eagles fell to 2-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Sept. 10 when they open its Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 1 p.m. home match against Flagler College.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Goeling's first goal of the season came off a corner kick by Edoardo Righetti from the left side. Righetti's corner found Goeling in the center of the box and Goeling was able to get it past the Carson-Newman goalie for the deciding goal.
Young Harris hed a 16-5 advantage on shots, including a 6-2 margin on goal.
Henrik Timgren stopped two shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
YHC recorded its second consecutive shutout of the season.
YHC's Dean Grey picked up his first collegiate win as a head coach.
