Mikkel Goeling's header with 3:59 remaining was the difference as No. 11 Young Harris College shut out Carson-Newman University 1-0 in a non-conference men's soccer match Wednesday (Aug. 31) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-1-1, while the Eagles fell to 2-1-0. Young Harris returns to action Sept. 10 when they open its Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 1 p.m. home match against Flagler College.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Goeling's first goal of the season came off a corner kick by Edoardo Righetti from the left side. Righetti's corner found Goeling in the center of the box and Goeling was able to get it past the Carson-Newman goalie for the deciding goal.

  • Young Harris hed a 16-5 advantage on shots, including a 6-2 margin on goal.

  • Henrik Timgren stopped two shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.

  • YHC recorded its second consecutive shutout of the season.

  • YHC's Dean Grey picked up his first collegiate win as a head coach.
