No. 30 Mountain Lions' season comes to a close at Southeast Regional

The 2022 season came to a close for the No. 30 Young Harris College baseball team as they dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 5 Wingate University Saturday (May 21) evening in an elimination game in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional No. 2 at Ron Christopher Stadium/Plyler Field.
The No 7 seeded Mountain Lions ended their season at 39-19, while the No. 2 seeded Bulldogs improved to 48-9 and advance to Sunday's (May 22) 1 p.m. regional championship game against No. 10 Columbus State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Wingate scored five times in the first inning and never looked back.
Gehrig Christopher drove in five runs for the Bulldogs.
Jackson Jones was the only YHC base runner as he singled through the left side in the second and reached on a walk in the fourth.
Mason Herbert (4-4) took the loss for the Mountain Lions.
Mitch Farris (7-1) earned the win for the Bulldogs, striking out 14 in the complete-game effort. Farris retired the final 17 batters.
The 39 wins for the Mountain Lions are a program best.
This was the second trip to the NCAA Division II Tournament in the past three seasons.
