No. 30 Young Harris downs No. 11 Lee 9-5

No. 30 Young Harris College took advantage of Lee University's wildness as the Mountain Lions defeated No. 11 Flames 9-5 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday (Feb. 14) afternoon at Larry Carpenter Stadium.


The Mountain Lions improved 6-2, while the Flames fell to 3-5. Young Harris returns to action Friday (Feb. 17) when they open uo the home schedule at Zell B. Miller Field as they also open up its Peach Belt Conference schedule with a 6 p.m. game against Augusta University.


INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Mountain Lions took advantage of nine walks and five wild pitches from the eight pitchers Lee used in the game.

  • The first three runs scored by Young Harris came off wild pitches from the Flames.

  • YHC took a 4-3 lead in third inning on an Ethan Stamps sacrifice fly.

  • The Mountain Lions took a 6-5 lead with two runs in the fifth. Steven Spell drew a bases-loaded walk and Jeremy Begora followed with a sacrifice fly.

  • Begora drove in the seventh run on a RBI single through the left side in the seventh inning.

  • The Mountain Lions add their final two runs in the eighth on a passed ball and Jarrett Ford added a sacrifice fly.

  • Young Harris had five hits in the game. Begora had two singles, while Ford added a double. Spell and James Basham accounted for the other hits.

  • Reliever Brady Caloway (1-0) earned the win with two innings.
